It is the third week
of school already! We hope everyone had a restful Labor Day weekend.
This Friday, September
7, is picture day. Please send
your picture order form to school with your student by Friday. Remember to dress in uniform.
Quail Run will be
holding a Luau fundraiser on Monday, September 10, from 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Tickets are $15 per adult, $10 per child, and $50 for a family pass (up
to 6 immediate family members). Mark your calendars; this is sure to be a lot
of fun!
If you are interested
in coming along as a chaperone on one of our field trips this year, you need to
fill out a background check form in the front office. (Dates and times of
our first field trip coming soon!)
Here is a look at what we are learning this week:
Art: Students will continue working on TAB art
ASL: Students continue to
work on colors, foods, and family in center time. In direct instruction time we are reviewing
the alphabet and learning to sign our names.
Dance: Students will discover the four elements of dance that
will be individually explored throughout the year which include: Body, Space, Time, and Energy. Students will
explore and discuss the following questions: Who is a dancer and Can everyone
dance? Students will then reach a guided conclusion that everyone is a dancer.
Lastly, students will learn the “body dance” and recognize how special and
unique their own body is.
Health: Students will be introduced to the most recent
nutritional chart used, My Plate.
Students will begin to identify the various food groups that should be included
in their daily diets. Students will also play a fun exercise-promoting game
called the Moving More Game.
Math: Place Value
Music: Rhythm and music genres
PE: Group games outdoors and Presidential fitness indoors (during
inclement weather).
Reading: Guided Reading, Decoding strategies, and Comprehension.
Science: Stars
Social Studies: Communities
Spanish: The Colors
Writing: Students will be learning about the writing process and
writing narrative texts, they will be learning the penmanship of Starting
Corner Capitals (H,K,L,U,V,W,X,Y,Z).
Students will continue their study of PENSMARK, a self-regulating
strategy developed to teach sentence fundamentals: capital letters, end marks,
making sense, simple sentence formulas, and subject and verb identification. During our writing class, the class is
divided into groups. The Cubes and the
Pyramids go to Mrs. Slade first for spelling and sentence fundamentals. The Cones, Spheres, and Rectangular Prisms go
to Mrs. Piacenti first for penmanship and composition. After thirty minutes the students
switch. Time is precious, and we are
working diligently to teach the students the routine so our time will flow
smoothly. We have enrichment centers
available for early finishers during this entire hour. Please ask your child in which geometric
shape group he/she is placed. If the
child is unsure, please email us and we will let you know so that you can
reinforce and review the routine at home. Thank you!
